Note: The purpose of this exercise is to cause you to become familiar with the method Central Maine Power Company bills your family for electricity. If your family does not receive an electric bill (e.g. utilities are included in a rent payment), or if you feel that this assignment is an invasion of privacy, I will supply you with a bill to analyze.
1. Find a recent (within the last six months) CMP bill.
2. How many days are used to calculate the bill this month?
3. What is your service type?
4. What was your Kwh usage for the billing period?
5. Your bill is divided into two parts: delivery charges and residential service energy charge. Divide the monetary value of each by the kw-h usage to learn the rate for each. Why is there such a disparity between these rates?
6. Is sales tax assessed for electricity use?
7. At the bottom of the page is a thirteen-month
summary of your Kwh consumption. The monthly total applies to
the billing period in question, the length of which varies from
month to month. Look at the daily total which is the monthly total
divided by the number of days in the billing period (rounded to
the nearest integer). Is the daily kwh usage steady or does it
vary? If there are peaks and valleys, can you tell what caused
them?
8. Who is your standard offer provider for energy? And what is
this standard offer provider anyway?
